As an artist I sometimes just sit and think. To some it looks like I’m doing nothing, but I’m actually inside my head, and it’s a very busy place. I’m creating my next project there, visualizing it as it comes together and sometimes, most times, tearing it apart and throwing it in the dustbin. As artists we have to be still, so we can invite ideas inside to unpack. You may not see the progress unfolding, but it is there, as sure as you can see progress being made as a building is built. More of the creative process happens in our heads than on the page, canvas or computer. So…if you see someone just sitting with a far off look in their eye, don’t assume they’re being lazy or unmotivated….they just may be an artist.
